Research
San Diego Neonatology, Inc. (SDN) is deeply committed to generating, teaching and applying new knowledge in our practice.
Some of the most life-saving innovations in neonatal care have been researched by our physicians before being adopted nationally as standard of care. Few of these include, surfactant therapy, high-frequency ventilation, delay cord clamping and systemic hypothermia. Currently, there are numerous active research studies being conducted with the assistance of SDN physicians and staff.
In addition to acting as principal investigators for many National Institute of Health-funded randomized clinical trials, team members publish research through peer-reviewed journals, books and medical conferences.
San Diego Neonatology, Inc. physicians, working with Sharp Health Care staff, have formed The Sharp Neonatal Research Institute (NRI) whose mission is to improve the outcomes for all newborn infants by providing the latest scientific evidence on the best ways to care for our newborns. The NRI is comprised of physicians, nurses, respiratory staff, research staff, data analysts, and the Sharp Healthcare Foundation.
